Srikakulam: A six-year-old schoolgirl kidnapped on Friday evening was rescued on Sunday, within 24 hours after the incident.

Police also arrested the accused person. Gandi Saranya, studying LKG in a private school at Laveru mandal headquarters was abducted on Friday by Lankapalli Suresh of Lavetipalem village of the same mandal.

According to police, Suresh, the suspect, called up the paternal uncle of the girl, Gandi Suresh, to inform him that he had kidnapped the girl to avenge her parents, whom he accused of separating his girlfriend from him.

Immediately after his call, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the police and district SP Dr C M Trivikrama Varma formed teams to nab the accused.

Srikakulam police alerted their Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam counterparts. The accused Suresh along with girl, was identified at Nakkapalli tollgate on National Highway in Visakhapatnam district.

On learning of this, Srikakulam DSP V Bhima Rao rushed to Nakkapalli along with personnel and picked up both the girl and the accused. Villagers, relatives and parents of the girl heaved a sigh of relief and appreciated police for rescuing the girl within 24 hours.
