Visakhapatnam: First of its kind in the south, dedicated cycle tracks are coming up on the city roads. As a part of the dedicated bicycle track project, already, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authroity (VUDA) laid 300 metres and seven feet width track exclusively for the cyclists who wish to move on the road on bicycles at Siripuram Junction towards AIR.

The track, which was laid in radium green colour, which also indicate green oxy zone lane, attracting many and created enthusiasm to pedal their bicycle for good health and pollution- free ride on the city roads. This is one of the initiatives of the Smart City project being taken up in the city.

Being 74 per cent of population resides in urban areas for availing best medical, health, educational and livelihood opportunities, the civic bodies must focus to provide clean, green and upgraded infrastructure equipped with basic amenities for the residents. The VUDA formulated a plan to lay dedicated cycle tracks in the city as part of Smart City projects, the Smart City project officials said.

As per the context of health is wealth, the State and Central governments are implementing a few amenities for denizens by introducing yoga and special cycling tracks at parks in the city. “Dedicated cycle tracks are multi-purpose initiative.

It will reduce the using of automobile impact on the environment and the cyclists would be in good health. Cycling is one of the best practices and addresses several health disorders,” Smart City project official said.

The officials are planning to lay similar tracks. The Smart City project officials are saying that many senior citizens are also coming forward to use cycle and asking to lay such tracks at their localities.
