Tirupati: SVIMS is embarking on a longitudinal population wellness programme to cover one lakh population using the new Community Health Centre (CHC) at Naravaripalli as the base rural Centre allocated to SVIMS recently.

“We will use the World Cancer Day on February 4 as the launch,” announced the Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor of SVIMS Prof TS Ravikumar. He added that though February 4 is an event, but the multipronged strategy will be a process to stretch over the days to come.

This is conceived as an outcome-based programme to improve health and happiness indexes of a defined population. For the World Cancer Day observance on February 4, SVIMS will adopt the global slogan of “We can, I can” to engage all its family to deploy a full day programme covering 52,000 population in 33 panchayats in Chandragiri mandal,” he added.

The activities include: Raising public awareness of cancer, messaging prevention, conducting mega medical camp at Naravaripalli CHC to do screening for cancer of high incidence, early detection drive and appropriate referrals to experts.

Around 2,000 people are expected to get the screening test in this camp with the short-term goals of enabling cancer detention in early stages, so as to improve cure rates and long-term goal is cancer prevention and reduce cancer burden in the community, said the Director.
