Bhimavaram: The villagers of Tundurru in Bhimavaram (rural mandal) obstructed the installation of 32 KW power cables over the fields in the village on Friday leading to a tense situation for some time in the village. The villagers were objecting to the installation of power cables from Godavari Aqua Mega Food Park through the fields of the farmers in the village.

However, the APEDCL officers attempted to install the power cables from the food park and tried to take the line through the fields in Tundurru. The electricity department officials and the linemen intensified their work of installing the 32 KW line from Pedagaruvu village on Friday.

The villagers immediately reached the spot and had a heated argument with the electricity department officials. The villagers led by anti-food park agitating committee convener Areti Vasu and others obstructed the works.

The AD of EPEDCL has called the police for protection. Following this, the police force has been deployed in the village. The villagers feared that if the 32 KW lines passed through their agricultural fields in the village, there might be a threat to the lives of people.

The villagers stated that the poor farmers are raising the coconut trees on the farm fields and the electricity officials are trying to cut the coconut trees in the fields. They warned that no coconut tree be removed or otherwise they will give a befitted reply.

Committee convener Areti Vasu said that the gram panchayat did not give any permission for setting up of power cables to the factory from Pedagaruvu through Tundurru village and fields. However, the APEDCL ADE Venkateshwara Rao has lied on it. He wondered as to how the EPEDCL would install the said lines without taking the opinion of the farmers.

On receiving a complaint from the ADE, policemen rushed to the spot and held discussions with the agitators. However, the villagers warned that no power cable should be installed through Tundurru and if necessary, they would sacrifice their lives. Following this, a tense situation prevailed in the village for sometime. As the electricity Department officials stopped the work for the day, peace was restored.
