100% increase in job registrations in 2017

Visakhapatnam: There was nearly a 100 per cent increase in the registration at Employment Exchange by the job-seekers in the year 2017 compared to the previous year, according to district employment exchange officials. Those registered thronged the District Employment Exchange on Saturday to register their educational certificates and other testimonials.

  The unprecedent rush to register with the Employment Exchange in 2017 was spurred by a notification issued in June-August last year making employment registration number mandatory for applying to jobs in public sector companies like RINL Steel plant, Hindustan Shipyard and others, informed district employment officer, E Venkata Ratnam.

• He further said the other reason for the increase in registrations was that the state government had announced of providing monthly income in the form of unemployment benefit programme to the unemployed youth through employment exchange centers. The state had asked the eligible unemployed to register with employment exchange via online within three weeks to avail the unemployment benefit programme.
• Ratnam informed the Hans correspondent that 73,565 were registered in the last three years. As per the records there were 18,601 registrations including 5697 women done in 2015. In 2016, 18,907 including 5,247 women registered at the district employment exchange in 2016, whereas in 2017 the figure almost doubled with 36,057 unemployed youth getting registered.
• Ratnam said for the last 15 years there was lack of recruitment at public sectors and some companies were inviting unemployed youth without employment exchange number.
• LEADS Youth services manager, Pavan Kumar said that state government was already working with NGOs and Youth service agencies at ground level to ensure that the unemployed benefits should reach to the eligible youth.
• M Sireesha, a widow whose husband had passed away in an accident, had come to register her educational qualification details at employment exchange to avail unemployment benefit. She had completed her Intermediate in Vocational Computer science at Dr VS Krishna college.
• L Uday Kumar who had completed Post graduation said that companies were asking to provide employment registration number during the time of online enrollment for jobs in both public and private sectors.
