Visakhapatnam: A team of five-member inquiry committee formed by Central Government’s Environmental Ministry along with Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) will inspect Achutapuram Pharma SEZ on February 5 and 6, said YSRCP district president Gudivada Amarnath.

YSRCP leaders and MP Vijay Sai Reddy had met Union Minister for Environment Harsha Vardhan and submitted a report against 40 companies which violated the pollution norms and demanded for action against them.

Following which, the Centre has formed a five-member committee with 3 members from Regional Environment office Chennai and other two from Central Ministry of Environment, Delhi.

Addressing media here on Saturday, Amarnath said the committee will visit pharma units and submit a report to the government.

Nearly 18,000 villagers residing at Pudimadaka gave 5,600 acres of land for SEZ with a compensation of Rs 2,95,000 per acre. Only 2,800 jobs were given to the locals in these industries.

According to APPCB and Environmental department norms, pharma industries should build three common affiliated treatment plants, one sewage treatment plant to recycle wastage released by industries and a pipeline up to three-and-a-half kilometre distance should be built with a depth of 19 meters into sea to carry out wastage from industries.

He also alleged that pharma industries should adopt multiple effective evaporators as per the guidelines of APPCB.

A record of wastage released by each pharma industry should be recorded, a regular exercise on ground water resources availability and air monitoring systems to check the pollution levels in the environment should be maintained. He also pointed out that 40 pharma industries have violated all the norms.
