93 punters convicted
A local court in Tanuku convicted 93 punters to one-day jail on Monday for their alleged involvement in betting on cockfight during Sankranthi festive season. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200 each.
Tanuku: A local court in Tanuku convicted 93 punters to one-day jail on Monday for their alleged involvement in betting on cockfight during Sankranthi festive season. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200 each.
The Tanuku police have conducted raids in various places and arrested 93 punters for betting on the cockfight, which was banned by the High Court. The police registered cases against the punters under various sections and produced before the special judicial second class magistrate court.
After hearing the arguments, the magistrate Gali Jagan issued orders convicting 93 punters for one-day jail and imposed a fine of Rs 200 each. The police earlier arrested 24 punters in Tanuku rural, 18 in Peravali, 44 in Undrajavaram and seven in Attili police station limits. After the magistrate’s order, the police shifted the punters to Sub Jail in Tanuku.
