Visakhapatnam: CITU panel won the elections defeating the INTUC panel in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant recognised trade union elections. At the neck-and-neck fight, the CITU won the crown with 198 votes majority and another panel AITUC stood in third place.

The counting of the votes continued till early hours of Tuesday. Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) SK Mishra announced that CITU won the election with 198 votes majority and secured 3,784 votes against INTUC (3,586) and AITUC (3,234) secured votes.

President of CITU panel J Ayodya Ram and general secretary of CITU YT Dasu said that the CITU, which formed as a front with seven other unions, contested in the elections and the unity of the strength proved with the win.

They alleged that the INTUC during its regime had failed to protect the welfare of the employees and majority of the employees expressed their dissent over the HRA settlement done by the INTUC.

The TNTUC votes also helped to the CITU to win the crown. In fact, the TDP suspended its senior TNTUC leader B Pydiraju, who supported the CITU panel. Pydiraju now joined the CITU and emerged as one of the key players in the win.
