Tirupati: The Brahmotsavams of Srikalahasteeswara Swamy started on a grand note on Thursday with Kannappa dwajarohanam. It was the tradition in the temple to perform first puja to Kannappa who gave his two eyes to Lord Shiva with devotion.

Accordingly, Kannappa was taken on a procession from Alankara mandapam to Kannappa konda with all traditions. After performing dwajarohanam there, Kannappa’s procession went around the four mada streets in Srikalahasti. On Friday Lord Shiva’s dwajarohanam will be performed and vahana sevas will also begin.

Earlier in the day, the media point was inaugurated at the ground floor of Administrative building by the ADC of endowments department M Raghunath in which temple EO D Bhramaramba also took part. On the occasion of Brahmotsavams, N Prasad of Nandyal in Kurnool district donated two tonnes of vegetables to the Devasthanam to be utilised in its ‘Nitya annadanam’.

EO Bhramaramba received the vegetables and honoured the donor. Meanwhile, the government has appointed M Raghunath as Chief Festival Officer for Brahmotsavams who inspected various works in the temple, new vahanas of Lord Shiva and the newly constructed TTD Guest House.
