Nellore: The statewide bandh organised by the Left and other political parties across the district on Thursday was complete and peaceful. RTC buses at Nellore, Atmakur, Kavali, Gudur, Sullurpet, Naidupet and Venkatagiri confined to depots only.

In Nellore city, activists of the Left parties have obstructed the movement of vehicles at VR College Circle, Gandhi statue and also in other parts of the city. CPM workers led by district secretary Ch Rajagopal have enforced bandh in Nellore city.

They took out a massive rally from Atmakur bus stand to VRC Circle via Gandhi statue. They staged a protest at Gandhi statue and raised slogans against the BJP-led NDA and TD governments. Rajagopal has criticised the central and state governments for neglecting the development of the state. He demanded the NDA government to allocate special funds for the state.

He stated that the Modi government had not considered financial crisis of the state after bifurcation and failed to extend cooperation through allocations in the Union Budget, he added. No TDP leaders and activists participated in rallies and protests in Nellore city.

YSRCP City MLA P Anil Kumar also participated in the bike rally organised by party activists in the city. Speaking to the media, Anil Kumar demanded the TDP MPs to quit the central cabinet and fight against the NDA government. He said the Modi government had failed to allocate special funds for development of the state after bifurcation.

Further, the Congress party workers led by DCC president Panabaka Krishnaiah staged a protest at Gandhi statue without wearing shirts and raised slogans against the Modi government for not allocating funds to the truncated state in the Union Budget.

Krishnaiah slammed the central Government for not having respect towards the AP Reorganisation Act which was passed in the Parliament. “There is no allocation of funds for construction of Polavaram, permission to the proposed Dugarajapatnam port and no proposal for railway zone in AP in the Union Budget,” said P Krishnaiah.

Workers of Jana Sena staged a stir at VR College Circle in the city. They demanded the central government to grant Special Category Status to the state. Meanwhile, TDP MLAs Kurugondla Ramakrishna and Pasam Sunil Kumar also took out bike rallies in Venkatagiri and Gudur towns.
