Transco purchasing power from pvt companies at higher rates: CPM
CPM and people’s organisations have complained to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) on Friday that the Transco was purchasing power at higher tariff from private power generation companies.
Tirupati: CPM and people’s organisations have complained to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) on Friday that the Transco was purchasing power at higher tariff from private power generation companies. APERC Chairman Justice Bhavani Prasad, members Raghu and Rammohan conducted public hearing at SPDCL headquarters here over the power supply, purchase and tariff on Friday.
Taking part in the hearing, CPM State committee member Kandarapu Murali questioned why the Transco was purchasing the power at a price of Rs 3.28 per unit from Hinduja Power Company and supplying it to customers at Rs 2.75 per unit without ERC permission. He asked on the measures planned to help EPDCL and SPDCL overcome the revenue deficit of Rs 7,982 crore.
He feared that the State government may increase power tariff in future to overcome the revenue deficit. Murali warned that the CPM will lead people’s movement against the power tariff hike.
Agricultural Workers Union district leader Vandavasi Nagaraju brought some problems to the notice of APERC. He said several farmers were waiting for days together for installation of transformers. After collecting deposit amount, the SPDCL officials have been taking a long time for installation of transformers in the fields, he complained.
Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi leader K Subramanyam brought the difficulties of ST people to the commission notice. He said the SPDCL officials were collecting high tariff on domestic power connections and STs are unable to pay high tariffs.
P Ramohan Reddy, industrialist, informed on the problems being encountered with regard to power supply and how the production was getting affected. He appealed to ERC to ensure power supply without any interruption during the ensuing summer season. He also sought simplifying procedures for sanctioning three-phase connections to industries.
During the hearing, more than 100 representations were submitted by various organisations and associations to the ERC. On receiving petitions and representations, APERC chairman Justice Bhavani assured that the issues under ERC would be sorted out immediately. The other issues would be brought to the notice of the State government for finding solutions.
SPDCL CMD M M Nayak and other officials were also present. Justice Bhavani Prasad assured that this year Commission would not enhance the power tariffs in the State. He informed that free power up to 75 units will be provided to SCs and STs. He said the Commission has been directing DISCOMs to ensure better power supply to people.
