110 quintals of PDS rice seized from miller

Eluru: Vigilance and enforcement officials raided a rice mill at Narsannapalem village in Koyyalagudem mandal on Friday and seized 110 quintals of rice that was aimed to supply through public distribution system (PDS). According to vigilance officials, Nune Narayana Rao, a rice mill owner, was purchasing PDS rice on a cheaper rate from public and recycled it at Sri Rama Rice Mill in Narasannapeta village in Koyyalagudem mandal.

On a tip-off, the vigilance officials raided the mill and found 110 quintals of PDS rice in the mill ready for recycling on Friday. The officials immediately seized the Bolero vehicle that was used to transport the PDS rice and the mill.

Earlier, the same miller had purchased PDS rice from public and recycled it at his mill. The vigilance officials raided the vehicle at that time and seized 16 tonnes of PDS rice. Vigilance Inspector G V Nageswara Rao, SI K Yesubabu and AOM Srinivas Kumar participated in the raids. A case has been registered against the miller.
