Kurnool: The leaders of political parties demanded the restoration of Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana idols at Chennampalli Fort and construction of a temple to allow people to worship them. The BJP and YSRCP leaders held press conferences at their respective offices on Saturday and demanded construction of Sri Rama temple at the excavation site.

YSRCP state general secretary Gouru Venkata Reddy demanded the government to build the temple at same spot where the idols were found at Chennampalli Fort in Tuggali mandal. Recalling the construction of Bhadrachalam temple, Gouru Venkata Reddy has said that the temple was constructed at the spot where Sita and Rama idols were unearthed. He asked the government to answer why the deity’s idols were shifted to district treasury instead of keeping them at the fort site.

He said, as per the Hindu tradition, temple has to be constructed where the idols were unearthed. He demanded the government to halt the excavation work with immediate effect or else they have to face the wrath of the people.

The BJP State Vice-President Kapileswaraiah also raised the same issue. He said the idols of Rama and Sita are sacred to Hindus. The unearthing of idols of Chennampalli Fort only reinforces the fact that there exists Ram Mandir and people used to worship Rama and Sita.
