Tirupati: The new Regional Manager (RM) of APSRTC Tirupati region T Chengal Reddy aimed to increase both traffic revenue and non-traffic revenue and reducing the expenditure at the same time to run the region into proļ¬ts. He assumed charge as the RM on Thursday in place of outgoing RM V Nagasivudu, who was asked to report at headquarters.

Speaking to the media, Chengal Reddy said, to increase non-traffic revenue they will use the commercial space available at various depots. Also, to give a push to RTC cargo, they were planning to appoint a cargo agent in every mandal. Anyone interested can pay Rs 5,000 as deposit and join as cargo agent, the RM said.

To provide better services to the pilgrims visiting Tirupati and Tirumala, a committee will be formed and study the situation to take the required steps. “RTC will chalk out plans with the cooperation of TTD, Revenue and Police departments,” he stated. “Already, TTD has allotted 1,000 tickets of Rs 300 darshan at Tirumala temple and by running bus services, we will make use of these tickets,” Chengal Reddy averred, adding RTC drivers will be given training to avoid road accidents.

The RM mentioned special emphasis will be laid on road safety and vehicle condition will be improved. Tirupati region will get new buses soon. During this year’s Mahasivaratri celebrations, RTC has operated 366 buses as against 308 buses last year and earned Rs 59.16 crore by transporting 2.5 lakh passengers, RM explained.
