Addressing a media conference at his office in Narsapur, DSP TT Prabhakara Babu said based on a complaint lodged by Panchadara Lakshmi of Palamuru village they came to know about the fake currency gang.

He said the accused Gubbala Veeraswamy, Guttula Venkata Ramana of Gollpara Cheruvu village befriended Lakshmi and told her that they can give her gold that was imported from Gulf on a cheaper rate.

Believing their words, she paid Rs 1.40 lakhs to them. Even after repeated attempts, they had failed to repay the amount. When she exerted pressure on them, they gave fake notes in the denomination of Rs 2,000 denomination. Lakshmi suspected the validity of the notes and demanded original currency. The duo took the fake currency from her and left Narsapuram.

Hence, she approached Narsapur police station and lodged a complaint. On the directive of DSP Prabhakara Babu formed teams with Narsapur Cis M Subba Rao, rural SI Ch Anjaneyulu and staff. On a tip-off, police arrested the gang members and seized fake currency notes.
