Tirupati: Kuppam-based Dravidian University Vice-Chancellor has opined that quality had a very allusive character and the concept of quality assurance and enhancement are not new. Considering teacher as the basis for quality assurance and enhancement, he said that continuous effort has been important to improve quality. Prof E Satyanarayana
He has delivered a keynote address at the inaugural function of two-day national conference on quality assurance and enhancement in higher education, sponsored by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV). Prof Satyanarayana stressed that the courses should be designed to provide employment opportunities and raise the quality of education to that effect.
“The teacher’s position being an honourable one and there is a need that he/she should serve the society. Teacher leaves an incredible mark on students and has a greater responsibility to improve skills according to the changes in the job market by assuring quality enhancement and preparing the students to face the global competition,” he maintained.
Prof Satyanarayana added that learning being a continuous process and the teacher needs to be more creative and should equip oneself to handle all kinds of situations skilfully. Attending workshops and training programmes alone will not improve the quality and more than that commitment is needed, he said.
Referring to the recommendations made by the Kothari Committee, he stressed that sustainable growth of every University was possible only through involvement and commitment. Referring to the committee, he stressed the need for education as an instrument of change.
Teachers should take into consideration the heterogeneity of the students and modify the teaching methods to meet the needs of the students, the V-C said, recalling that former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao was instrumental in setting up both SPMVV and Dravidian University.
SPMVV V-C Prof V Durga Bhavani said that success in the knowledge economy can be acquired only through quality which in turn can be achieved only through sincerity and commitment of every teacher in the higher education institutions. Rector Prof V Uma and Registrar Prof DM Mamatha also spoke on the occasion. Coordinator of IQAC Prof S Jyothi, Prof D Sarada, Prof M Vijayalakshmi and others took part.
