Sluggish response to Fibernet

Nellore: Network of commercial cable operators and internet providers are said to be major setback for failure of much-hyped transmission services of the Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited (APSFL).

The project which is the brain child of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was aimed to deliver cable, telecom and internet services through a single transmission system to the people at affordable charges. But it is not getting good response as the private operators were not giving priority in urban areas.

Officials of the APSFL had installed cable lines in orange colour and recently they also arranged yellow line getting ready for home-based connectivity. But, there has been poor response from the city population since the services were being discouraged by the private operators saying ‘the transmission is not sufficient for city needs.’

In fact, there was a parallel system developed in all rural and urban areas where private managements have been taking up complete control over the trade in cable and internet services. The system spread from cable operators to the Multiple System Operators who play a crucial role.

Since the existing system had gained much popularity among consumers they are not willing to promote government-based network that would pose threat to the trade in future. Cable was arranged in the district for 1,875 km and planned to provide ‘Fiber To The Home’ services through Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology for giving high-end quality.
