Eluru: The electricity contract workers strike continued on eighth day on Tuesday demanding the redressal of their grievances. The contract workers took out a rally to the Zilla Parishad Guesthouse here where Minister for Labour and Employment Pithani Satyanarayana was present.

The Minister came out of the guesthouse and held discussions with the union leaders. Union leaders asked the Minister to implement the system that was introduced by the Telangana government.

They pointed out that the Telangana government had decided to treat contract workers as government workers and pay government salaries. The leaders requested the Minister to consider this proposal in Andhra Pradesh to benefit the workers.

Pithani Satyanarayana said that the contract workers are on the agitating path and they will discuss the possibilities of implementation of the policy adopted by the Telangana government. He pointed out that the workers are agitating at his house in Kommu Chikkala peacefully and congratulated them for it.

Meanwhile, the contract workers of electricity department reached Kommu Chikkala village in Poduru mandal and staged a dharna in front of Minister Pithani Satyanarayana. They staged a novel protest by taking up ‘Vanta Varpu’ in front of Minister’s house. After ‘Vanta Varpu/ programme, they withdrew their agitation.
