Eluru: First year intermediate examinations went off peacefully in West Godavari district on Wednesday. Students reached the examination centres one hour before to attend the examinations.

The first paper Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu examinations have been conducted in the centres. The Board of Intermediate officials opened 102 examination centres in the district. About 36,947 students are attending the first year exams in General and Vocational categories.

In view of the examinations, Section 144 was promulgated in the radius of 100 metres from the examination centre. On the first day of the first year examinations, about 35,952 students appeared for the exams in the district out of a total of 37,607.

In all, 1,655 students abstained from the examinations, according to Intermediate Board Regional Inspecting Officer B Prabhakara Rao. He said no incident took place in the district and the exams went off peacefully. Police security also arranged at the examination centres.

In Eluru, St Teresa’s Women’s college, Sir CR Reddy College, PDBT College centres have been opened for the examinations. RIO Prabhakara Rao inspected various centres in the city in the morning.
