Srikakulam: Middlemen were the prime accused in the attack on tahsildar of Hiramandal M Kaliprasad in the town on Wednesday, said District Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy at the Collectorate here on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, he urged the displaced people of Vamsadhara project not to believe in middlemen as they were misleading them, and instead asked them to put their trust in district officials who were having powers to resolve their issues.

They have been conducting meetings at the special and regular Grievance Cells to sort out the issue of payments to the displaced people and other such pending issues, he added.

Listing out the details on the action taken, Collector Dhanunjaya Reddy said that they have already paid Rs 232.27 crore for land acquisition and another Rs 83.29 crore for rehabilitation and resettlement in 2005. He said that another Rs 346.80 crore was paid under the youth package and an amount of Rs 323.81 crore as compensation for houses.

An amount of Rs 69.79 crore was also paid for houses recently in project affected villages, he added. Till now, payments were paid to 62 persons and another 81 petitions were still pending regarding the project and they would resolve it by March 15, the District Collector assured.

Additional Joint Collector P Rajinikantha Rao, Palakonda RDO Reddy Gunnayya and Land Acquisition Department officials for Vamsadhara project were also present on the occasion.
