Vijayawada: The YSRCP leaders, members, supporters, women and people laid siege to the Sub-Collector's office here on Thursday demanding the ruling TDP government join them to fight for Special Category Status (SCS).

A rally was taken out from YSRCP office on MG Road to Sub-Collector's office led by YSRCP leaders Kolusu Partha Saradhi, Samineni Udayabhanu, Jogi Ramesh, Vellampalli Srinivas, Malladi Vishnu, P Somi Naidu, B Bhava Kumar and others.

The leaders laid siege to the Sub-Collector's office and raised slogans ‘Pratheyaka Hoda Andrula Hakku’, Pratheyaka Hoda Sanjivini and development of Andhra Pradesh was possible only with Special Category Status.

Speaking on the occasion, Partha Saradhi said that the rally was taken out following the call given by YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy. All the Collectorates in the state were besieged in protest against the Union government for not granting Special Category Status. He said the fight for Special Category Status would continue till the Central government accords Special Category Status to the state.

Lambasting Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his double standards on the status, he demanded the TDP leaders follow them to fight against the BJP government on status.

Venting ire against the ruling TDP government, he said that the people of the state will teach a lesson for diluting the SCS issue in lieu of special package. He recalled that before coming to power the Chief Minister had told the SCS should be given to Andhra Pradesh for a minimum period of 10 to 15 years.

He criticised the TDP government for not raising voice against the BJP government on Polavaram project, SCS, Railway Zone, Kadapa Steel Plant and for not allocating funds in the recent budget. He demanded that the TDP MPs should resign if the SCS was not given to the state. He further said that all the leaders would protest against the Union government in Delhi.
