Vijayawada: In all, 148 leprosy patients were identified in Krishna and Guntur districts and US$ 37,500 was sanctioned for their treatment. The fund was handed over by Rotary Club of Roseberry (USA) to the Rotary Club of Vijayawada on Friday.

Rotary Club of Roseberry (USA) president Maddala Srinivas was the chief guest at the launch of Rotary Foundation Global Grand organised by Rotary Club, Vijayawada.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that services of Rotary Club towards the poor and weaker sections were spread across the world and thanked Rotary Club of Roseberry Club (USA) for sanctioning the amount for the treatment of leprosy patients. He said that the club was organising welfare programmes like distributing clothes, food, scholarships, lake purification projects, he added.

Rotary Club Governor GV Rama Rao said Rotary Club is top in the nation in rendering service activities, providing scholarships to the poor students, adopting government schools and organising free medical camps. Rotary Club of Vijayawada coordinator NV Suresh Kumar, C Bhagavant Rao, D Naveen and other members were present.
