Woman attempts suicide at Zilla Parishad office

Guntur: A woman attempts suicide by consuming rat poison at the Zilla Parishad office premises on Monday for not solving her problem relating to the revenue department for the last six months.

District Collector Kona Sasidhar was conducting ‘Meekosam’ to receive petitions from people at that time. She met the revenue officials several times and explained her problem and despite that her problem was not solved.

Speaking to The Hans India, the victim D Bujji got patta for land at Swaranabharati Nagar weaker sections colony in Guntur city in 1999. She constructed a hut and residing with her family members.

Similarly, the revenue officials have also given pattas to 13 families belonging to the Scheduled Caste at the same area. Following pressure from some anti-social elements, the revenue officials changed the land records and asked the patta holders to vacate the land.

Bujji said that she had complained to revenue officials several times and they did not take the matter seriously and her problem remained unsolved.

Vexed with the attitude of revenue officials, she came to ZP office premises during the grievance meeting by the collector and staged a dharna along with the 13 SC families.

They also raised slogans against the district administration for neglecting their problem. In a fit of rage, she consumed rat poison and attempted suicide. A police constable informed the matter to district collector Kona Sasidhar, who sent an official to know her problem.
