Amravati: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a last minute effort to prevent the resignation of the two ministers Ashok Gajapati Raju and Y S Sujana Chowdary.
According to the media Advisor the Government of Andhra Pradesh Parkala Prabhakar, the Prime Minister told Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that they could sit and talk over the issue. The Chief Minister told Modi that many times he had discussed these issues with him but nothing had come out of the discussions and the centre did not help the state as it should have. In a brief reaction, the Prime Minister told Naidu, “We have done.”
Naidu he said then told the Prime Minister that yes some help was given but not substantial. There are several issues like the Special Category Status, separate railway zone and many other issues which have not been addressed. Event the amount promised under special package was not given.
Naidu also told the Prime Minister that since the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had made it clear once again on Wednesday that there was no question of giving SCS. Jaitley made it clear that centre would only extend 90% and 10% formula under special package and that it was for the state government to take it or leave it. This Naidu told the Prime Minister was not acceptable to him. He further said that under the circumstances he does not see any point in continuing in the Government and hence the two ministers would be meeting him soon and would submit their resignations. He however told Modi that TDP would continue to be party of NDA.
According to sources, Naidu is said to have explained to the Prime Minister about the prevailing political situation in the state and how the sentiments were running high following the failure of the Centre to accord Special Category Status and the extreme delay that had taken place in implementing the Special package it had announced. He is also learnt to have told the Prime Minister that the manner in which the Union Finance Minister spoke on Wednesday at the press conference had hurt him more and had dashed all hopes that the Centre would extend hand-holding till the state attains level-playing ground. It is not known how the Prime Minister reacted but sources say that the response was lukewarm.
