The International Women’s Day was celebrated on a grand note here on Thursday across the district. Srikakulam: The International Women’s Day was celebrated on a grand note here on Thursday across the district. Women can play a key role to bring a change in society as a mother, wife and responsible citizen, said Srikakulam MLA G Lalshmidevi. She was present at the Women’s Day celebrations at Bapuji Kalamandir which were held under the aegis of private schools and colleges.

“Women judges and advocates need to create awareness among women over enactments which are meant for women welfare”, said District Judge VB Nirmala Githamba. She participated in the Women’s Day fete at the district court here.

District Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy called upon the people to prevent pre-natal detection of gender and killing the girl child through illegal abortions. He participated in the Women’s Day celebrations at the Zilla Parishad organised by the Women and Child Welfare and Youth Services Departments.

Women need to inculcate courage and improve self-sustainability in all areas, said Superintendent of Police Dr CM Trivikrama Varma. He was the chief guest at the celebrations in the district police office. On the occasion, he felicitated women police who served with dedication.

The Women’s Day was celebrated at BR Ambedkar University in Etcherla and various government colleges across the district. Political parties also conducted the Women’s Day at their party offices.
