Guntur: Supreme Court Judge Justice Jasti Chalameswar stressed the need to make agriculture viable and added that it is responsibility of the government to do it.

Justice Chalameswar inaugurated Gosala at Kornepadu near Guntur city on Sunday. The function was organised under the aegis of Rythu Nestam Foundation. Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy also took part in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Chalameswar sought the cooperation of the people to check use of plastic and to protect environment. Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy stressed on the need for farmers to switch over to nature farming.

He said that the government had set a target to 5 lakh hectares under nature farming in the State by 2022. He said the government was spending Rs 37 crore for the purpose. He said a Seed University is coming up in Kurnool at a cost of Rs 675 crore.

Founder of Rythu Nestam Foundation Venkateswara Rao said that due to the delay in conducting land productivity tests, the farmers were incurring losses. Former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad and former minister Dr Daggubati Venkateswara Rao and others participated.
