Amaravati: In a bid to boost the spirit of energy conservation and bestow the fruits of energy efficiency (EE) to all categories of consumers and stakeholders, the state government has finalised an action plan to launch state-level massive awareness campaign with the support Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of Union Ministry of Power involving all government departments, students and self-help groups to inculcate the habit of energy conservation(EC).

The campaign aimed to generate awareness among public and propagate a message in the society that energy conservation is a social responsibility. In a review meeting with the energy department, Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar explained the directions of the Chief Minister that energy department should adopt integrated approach by involving all key departments, including schools and higher education, rural development, industries, agriculture, social and tribal welfare for effective implementation of energy efficiency programmes wherein state can achieve around 10,000 to 12,000 MU as against the total annual energy requirement of around 60,000 MU with monetary savings of Rs 5.54 per unit.

The chief secretary also said the Chief Minister wants that every house, consumer and stakeholder should be provided with consultancy services for effective usage of global technology-based energy efficiency appliances in all sectors which ultimately benefit the state and public for overall economic development.

Principal secretary to energy department Ajay Jain said that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), which was fully convinced with the energy efficiency implementation in AP, has issued a special grant for conducting energy awareness programmes, workshops and rallies aiming at a massive scale awareness involving self-help groups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).

The energy department has 5-point formula for vigorous EC consciousness programmes. As part of it, district collectors should conduct district-level EC committee meetings involving all the key departments.
