Tirupati: The Minister for Industries N Amarnath Reddy has called for polio-free society in which everyone should contribute. He inaugurated pulse polio immunisation (PPI) programme in Palamaneru on Sunday and administered the dose to children.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister has said that it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children below five years are administered polio drops which will keep them away from many problems in future.
In Chittoor, ZP Chairperson S Geervani, Municipal Corporation Mayor K Hemalatha and Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Commissioner Dr Jayachandra Reddy inaugurated the programme at Municipal Corporation Primary School at Prasanth Nagar.
Addressing the gathering, ZP Chairperson Geervani recalled that during the first phase of pulse polio programme held on January 28, district has recorded 100 per cent immunisation. Chittoor Mayor Hemalatha has said that every parent should remember the saying “Two drops for every child every time will protect them from polio” and take their children to nearest pulse polio booths to administer the dose.
Chittoor MLC BN Rajasimhulu congratulated the officials efforts in making the programme a grand success. APVVP Commissioner Dr Jayachandra Reddy has said, for 4,71,402 children of 0-5 years of age, 6,04,000 polio doses were supplied.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr S Vijaya Gowri disclosed that 2,984 booths were established at rural and urban areas in the district for the convenience of all parents to take their children to the nearest booth. In addition to that,124 mobile vehicles were deployed and posters, banners and other material were also supplied to create awareness among people.
In-charge Municipal Commissioner Subba Rayudu, District Coordinator of RBSK programme Dr Sudarsan, Dr Janaki Rao, Nirmalamma and others took part. The programme would continue on Monday and Tuesday and ASHA and Anganwadi workers will visit door to door to cover remaining children.
In Tirumala, JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju commenced polio administration programme and said that TTD has set up 21 centres for pilgrims and four for locals in Tirumala. SMO Dr Muralidhar, Dr Narmada and others were present. In Tirupati, MLA M Suguna, TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav and Corporation Commissioner C Hari Kiran participated in the programme. To administer polio drops to 34,354 in Tirupati Urban 157 centres were established in 15 routes.
Collector administers polio drops
District Collector T Babu Rao Naidu has called upon the people to extend their support to the administration in making Kadapa as polio free district. Speaking after administering polio drops to the kids at Mandal Prajaparishad School at Lohia Nagar in Kadapa city on Sunday, he said that following initiative taken by the authorities, no polio case has been registered so for in recent period in the district.
Parents should bring their children voluntarily to the pulse polio centres by considering the issue as social responsibility. DM&HO N Uma Sundari and others were present.
