As part of smart city development project, Tirupati Municipal High School ground will get facelift soon.  Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Municipal (SPJNM) high-school ground has been utilised for organising the sports, cultural and political events for the last 75 years in temple city Tirupati. Public are using the ground to conduct several private and public and political events.

Tirupati: As part of smart city development project, Tirupati Municipal High School ground will get facelift soon. Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Municipal (SPJNM) high-school ground has been utilised for organising the sports, cultural and political events for the last 75 years in temple city Tirupati. Public are using the ground to conduct several private and public and political events.

In the ground many times TDP had conducted its conclave (Mahanadu). Former chief minister N T Ramarao, former prime minister Indira Gandhi and Congress party had conducted their election meeting here. And further, NTR had announced about his second marriage with Lakshmi Parvathi at Major Chandrakanth film 100 days function in this ground.

With the progress of smart city works, ultra-modern facilities will be added to the municipal ground soon. As part of ground modernisation works, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) officials have prepared a comprehensive blue print for ground development. Commissioner Ch Harikiran inspected the ground and discussed with officials about the modernisation two days ago.

During his visit, the commissioner decided to develop the ground with modern sports infrastructure like badminton and volley ball courts. In addition, two big digital screens will be provided on the ground for the convenience of sports lovers and audience to view the sports and cultural events comfortably.

As part of another major change, the compound wall of the ground will be replaced with strong iron grills so that passersby can watch the sports from outside also. Similarly, MCT officials have also planned for construction of jagging and walking tracks. It is also planned to bring gym infrastructure for school students. The cost has been estimated at more than Rs 50 lakhs.

MCT Commissioner Ch Harikran has said that it is a more than 75 years old ground and located at the heart of the town. As part of smart city development works, we have decided to bring the advanced sports infrastructure for the benefit of school children and youth.

It is very accessible ground to the public who are living near Alipiri and Bhavani Nagar, Chennareddy colony, Giripuram, Sarojini Devi Road, Kanakabushan layout and other residential areas, said the Commissioner. MCT has already prepared plan for development works, he added.
