Chirala: Everyone should work to end child marriages, child trafficking and work for the protection of children rights, said Chirala Tahsildar M Venkateswarlu.
He attended as the chief guest at an awareness programme organised by the HELP NGO, Girls Advocacy Alliance and Childline 1098 in the Tahsildar office.

The awareness programme was specially organized to create awareness among villagers on child marriages, trafficking and protection of rights of children. Venkateswarlu said that the girls were facing a lot of health issues after getting married at younger age and that was affecting the growth and development of children directly. He asked the VROs to focus on the child marriages and stop them as the coming two to three months were considered best for marriages.

The programme officer of HELP NGO and paralegal volunteer BV Sagar emphasised the need of creating awareness on the child marriages and child trafficking from the village level.

He said that according to the Child Marriages Prevention Act, the people involved in the marriage of the girl below 18 years and boy below 21 years of age would be awarded with two years of imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine. He asked public and officials to inform to 1098 if they come across any information related to the neglected children in the district.
