Deaths a cause for concern: Narendra

Amaravati: TDP MLA D Narendra Kumar expressed concern over the negligence of the officials in containing the deaths due to outbreak of diarrhoea in Guntur. Participating in the Question Hour in the Assembly on Thursday, he said that Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana did not give proper reply to the question raised on deaths.

Official apathy was the reason behind increasing number of deaths and the officials should have also taken up precautionary measures in advance. The incidents would give bad image to the government, he said. The local body officials did not conduct repairs to the water pipes, which were arranged 40 years ago, resulting in contamination of drinking water due to leakages.

MLA Gadde Rammohan expressed displeasure over the overflowing of drainage water on the city roads. Though 90 per cent of the underground drainage work was completed in the city, the overflowing drain water has been creating inconvenience to the public and causing diseases.

He said that the sanitary pads were thrown in drains resulting in blocking of water flow. He asked the government to create awareness in this regard. Minister P Narayana said that the government took several steps towards extending help to the victims of diarrhoea in Guntur city. The new technology and machinery introduced for maintaining sewerage in the drains, he said.
