Tirupati: The BSNL has launched a special drive to get the customers of Aircel into its fold. Aircel had resolved to close its operations owing to huge losses. Accordingly, BSNL will conduct a ‘special mela’ to woo Aircel subscribers in Chittoor district where the private telecom operator is a having huge customer base of 1.7 lakh which is top among the 13 districts in AP.
Disclosing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, BSNL General Manager (Tirupati) MSA Nutan said BSNL will conduct ‘special mela’ in which BSNL SIM cards will be provided free of cost to Aircel subscribers.
Assuring Aircel customers of BSNL’s best services, he made an appeal to Aircel customers in the district to opt BSNL in Chittoor district where he said the PSU telecom player is having a strong presence in extending good service to customers.
He further said that the Aircel subscribers without changing their Aircel mobile number can switch over to BSNL network so that there will be no inconvenience to them by taking up other mobile service. In this connection, Nutan said BSNL is bracing up for expanding its customer base in the district by upgrading its network.
As many as 342 towers including 210–2G and 132-3G will be strengthened with Nokia Siemens equipment for better performance, he said adding that 70 more new 3G towers will also be set up across the district within a month to ensure a strong network. In addition, 10 Wi-Fi hotspots with 5G speed in many places in the district to fine tune mobile network service, he averred.
Nutan stated that as part of promoting paperless concept, the BSNL has taken up a special campaign ‘go green’ to pursue its landline customers to opt online service for getting their monthly bill. BSNL will provide a rebate of Rs 10 to the customer for giving up postal service for receiving up the bill, he said adding that this will help to minimise usage of paper and manual labour.
He took the occasion to explain in detail the wide range of prepaid plans introduced by BSNL to withstand the stiff competition from private players more so Jio. Deputy General Managers Chandrasekhar, Sudhakar, and other officials were present.
