Eluru: The Polavaram project displaced tribals of Velairpadu and Kukunuru staged a dharna at ITDA office in Kota Ramachandrapuram village in Buttayagudem mandal demanding that the government construct houses for them.

Hundreds of triblas led by CPI (ML)-New Democracy went in a rally from Kota Ramachandra Puram village to ITDA Project Officer’s office. The CPI (ML)-New Democracy state vice-president and Arunodaya state secretary P Srinivas addressing the dharna alleged that the government did not give the land to the displaced tribals of Polavaram project.

He alleged that the tribals were denied justice in the survey of the land. He stated that the houses were constructed by the government were small and of poor quality. He demanded that the government construct spacious houses for the Polavaram displaced and also proper compensation.

All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh district president Vetti Subbanna said that the governments are neglecting the problems of the tribals. He demanded that the government construct double bedroom, kitchen and hall to the displaced.

Progressive Youth League (PYL) Division Committee president K Pothi Reddy, secretary P Prasad, K Nageswara Rao, T Babu Rao, Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) district leaders V Bharathi, Latha, and others took part in the Dharna. They submitted a memorandum to ITDA PO Harindra Prasad after the dharna.
