Kurnool: The YSR Congress Party leaders organised human chain agitation at various places across the district on Monday, demanding the Central government to accord Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.
In Kurnool city, the party leaders, including state leader B Y Ramaiah, took out a huge rally from party office to Raj Vihar Centre. Speaking on the occasion, BY Ramaiah said that Andhra Pradesh was promised to accord with SCS by the BJP during bifurcation. But, it ignored the issue now, he alleged, blaming the Telugu Desam government for failing to fight with the BJP-led NDA government in getting SCS to AP.
He explained several benefits that the state would get if it gets SCS. YSRCP is the only party which is fighting for the SCS since the beginning and it is possible with its President YS Jaganmohan Reddy, he stated. The party also organised a human chain at Kotla Circle in Adoni. State Secretary Gopala Reddy, city president Deva and others participated.
Prior to the human chain at Kotla Circle, a big rally was taken out from YSRCP office. Anantapur: The YSRCP party workers and leaders staged a human chain at the Tower Clock junction here on Monday demanding SCS to the state.
The stir was organised in all the major towns-Hindupur, Kalyanadurgam, Tadipatri, Guntakal, Dharmavaram and Uravakonda-by local leaders, who organised human chains and disrupted road traffic for some time. Police foiled the agitation at several places and arrested the YSRCP workers.
At Uravakonda, local YSRCP MLA Visveshwara Reddy lambasted the central and state governments for being hand in glove and doing nothing for people for the last four years.
He termed it as political opportunism. The TDP has taken a U-turn and claiming to be the champion of the people, he said. The YSRCP leader and former MP Anantha Venkatarami Reddy lashed out at Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Naidu for betraying the people of AP.
