Kurnool: ‘World Head Injury Awareness Day’ was organised in the city on Tuesday. On the occasion, the Police department and My Cure Hospital have jointly conducted a motorbike rally to create an awareness among the people on road safety.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetty flagged off the bike rally from My Cure Hospitals and the rally culminated at Raj Vihar Centre. After flagging off the rally, the SP, who spoke to the media, said that around 30 people were losing their lives due to head injuries in road accidents every month.

One can save themselves from this dire situation if they wear helmets while driving on their motorbikes and putting on seat belts in car. He stated the central government has introduced the ‘Good Samaritan’ guidelines.

According to the guidelines, everyone could come to the rescue of a road accident victim. Earlier, people used to fear that police cases would be foisted against them if they rescue the road accident victims. Now, the Union government has relaxed the norms, he added.

Gopinath made an appeal to the people to wear helmets to save themselves from head injuries which may prove to be fatal. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naga Suresh said that every year, the 20th of March was being observed as World Head Injury Awareness Day.

He said that several cases associated with head injuries were being registered in hospitals. Around 90 per cent of head injury cases were the result of not wearing helmets and for not putting on seat belts, he added.

DSP Khader Basha, Dr Chaitanya, Tejanandan Reddy, Sumanth Kumar, BS Praveen Kumar, B Praveen Kumar, CIs Degala Prabhakar, Ramaiah Naidu, Muralidhar Reddy, and Gunasekhar Babu, traffic police and hospital staff were present on the occasion.
