Ganta promises to develop infrastructure in schools

Amaravati: Minister for human resource development Ganta Srinivasa Rao announced on Wednesday that the government allocated Rs5,000 crore for development of infrastructure facilities in the schools run by the government in the state.

He admitted that many school buildings are in a dilapidated condition and there is need for construction of new buildings. Responding to a question raised by Katti Narasimha Reddy in the Legislative Council, the minister narrated the measures being taken by the government to develop infrastructure facilities in schools and colleges.

He announced the funds would be spent for construction of compound walls, additional classrooms, toilets and other facilities. Quality control wing of the government departments will check the newly-constructed buildings and take action if the norms are violated, he added.

Some MLCs pointed out that some school buildings are constructed with very poor quality and were not even lasting 10 years. Reacting to it, Srinivasa Rao said necessary care was being taken to ensure the quality of the works. Replying to another question, the minister said the government would take necessary steps for the transfer of teachers this summer.

MLCs Boddu Nageswara Rao, V Balasubramanyam and Ramu Surya Rao and others suggested that descriptive type of examinations be conducted in the summative examinations in schools, as objective type examinations will be of no use to the students. The minister said the government would take the suggestions from experts on mode of summative examinations.
