Vijayawada: HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said the state government will fill all vacant posts of assistant professors across the universities in the state. Addressing media at a private hotel here on Wednesday, the minister said the government had identified 1,711 vacant teaching posts and recommended to fill 1,109 posts in 14 varsities in the state.

Stating that recruitment of teaching staff has not been taken place since 1980s in varsities, the minister said with the initiative of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the screening test will be conducted for 1,109 assistant professor posts from April 9 to 13.

Stating that 76,356 applications were received for screen test with 1:69 ratio, the minister said the screen tests will be held at 11 centres including Anantapur, Guntur, Hyderabad, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nellore, Rajamahendravaram, Srikakulam, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

Paper-1 will be on teaching aptitude test and paper-2 will be on respective subjects and hall tickets can be downloaded from March 25, the minister said. In the wake of previous experience of irregularities in recruitment of assistant professor posts, in the first phase, the APPSC will recruit 846 posts and remaining 263 posts in the second phase.

The minister made it clear the government will not involve in the autonomous power of any university. After the screen test, he said the varsities will follow the recruitment procedure with transparency.

A five-member committee led by former vice-chancellor Prof C V Raghavulu had submitted a report to the government recommending filling 1,385 posts immediately for 560 courses and 465 departments in AP, he said.
