Eluru: A six-member gang made a vain bid to ransack a fish trader’s residence at Shanti Nagar here on the midnight of Thursday. Even the State’s ‘100’-emergency call centre alerted the Three Town police station but the police failed to reach the spot.
The sentry on duty failed to convey the message to his higher officials and they were able to escape. It was suspected that the gang might be a ‘cheddy gang’ which was involved in many dacoities and robberies in the state.
Sarella Ramakrishna, a fish trader in Eluru, is residing as a tenant in the ground-floor of the building of lawyer D Satyanarayana. On Thursday night, Ramakrishna returned home before midnight. Around `12.05 am, he heard some splash in the compound.
He watched the CCTV footage that was erected on the ground floor and found six members wandering in the compound trying to move the vehicles parked inside the compound near Ramakrishna’s doorstep.
When he saw this, he rang up ‘100’ Emergency, who in turn, alerted the Three Town police station within minutes. The duty sentry, who received the call, did not inform about the incident to his higher officials immediately. He told them after one hour. As a result, the police lost an opportunity to nab the members of the notorious gang who were giving sleepless nights to the public.
Ramakrishna also informed about the gang to his house owner Satyanarayana and other friends over the phone. When he switched on the lights in the verandah of his portion, the burglars fled away by jumping from the compound wall.
On receiving information, Eluru DSP K Eswara Rao, Central Crime Station (CCS) DSP Satyanarayana, Three Town Circle Inspector Srinivasa Rao, Sub-Inspector A Pydibabu reached the house on Friday morning and enquired about the incident from Ramakrishna.
Later, speaking to the media, DSP K Eshwara Rao said that there was no need to panic about the incident as steps were taken to tighten the security. He said that this gang was not the ‘Cheddy gang’ and they might be the Sholapur gang from Maharashtra.
However, a case was registered based on the complaints of house owner Satyanarayana and tenant Ramakrishna, he added. He said a team was formed to nab the gang.
