The state government divided Guntur urban mandal into Guntur east and Guntur west mandals issuing a notification to this effect.
Guntur: The state government divided Guntur urban mandal into Guntur east and Guntur west mandals issuing a notification to this effect. In fact, the government released a notification three months ago and received objections from people and the district administration sent them to the government.
The government took the decision and divided the mandal into Guntur east and Guntur west mandals, which will come into force with immediate effect. District Collector Kona Sasidhar will appoint the tahsildars and staff and provide necessary infrastructure.
At present, the population of the Guntur city is nearly nine lakh. Recently, 10 neighbouring villages were merged into the Guntur Municipal Corporation to develop infrastructure in these villages.
When the surrounding villages were merged into the GMC, the work load on the tahsildar would be increased. The district administration sent this proposal four years ago. Revenue Minister KE Krishna Murthy took the initiative for the division of the mandal.
According to orders issued by the government, Guntur east constituency, Jonnalagadda, Gorantla, Etukur, Budampadu, Reddypalem will come under Guntur east mandal.  Similarly, Guntur west Assembly constituency, Koritapadu, R Agraharam, Pedapalakalur, Chinapalakalur, Nallapadu, Ankireddypalem, Pottur and Chowdavaram will come under Guntur west assembly constituency.
People are facing a lot of problems to get the revenue services. After Amaravati became capital, tahsildars are spending more time on protocol duties. Since the mandal is now divided, it will reduce the workload on the revenue officials and they will render better services to the people, it is surmised.
