Kurnool: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board here on Saturday conducted awareness programme on plastic waste at the Rythu Bazar here through Kala jathas.

Harinath Reddy, Commissioner, Kurnool Municipal Corporation, and T. Rajendra Reddy, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer, APPCB, Kurnool took part in the programme. Harinath Reddy explained the steps taken by the corporation to avoid using the plastic and called upon the citizens to carry jute bags for shopping to avoid using the plastic.

Rajendra Reddy dwelt at length on the adverse impact of plastics on the environment and requested the municipal authorities to take stern action against shop-keepers selling plastic carry bags less than 50 microns. The Kala jatha team “Turupati Narayana Kalajatha Brundam” conducted the awareness through street play and songs regarding the necessity of avoiding plastic usage in daily life for protection of the environment.
