Vijayawada: Tension prevailed for some time when the leaders of city CPI attempted to lay siege the BJP state office in the city on Monday. A large number of CPI workers led by secretary Donepdi Sankar staged a protest demonstration in front the BJP office demanding the Centre to give Special Category Status (SCS) and allow for discussion on no-confidence motion in Parliament.

The CPI activists raised slogans against the Centre and the BJP. They said the BJP was cheating people of the state. On the occasion, the activists of BJP tried to oppose the CPI’s protest and its leaders. The alert police immediately reached the spot and avoided scuffle between the BJP and the CPI leaders.

CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar said the Central government was intentionally not taking up no-confidence motion for debate in parliament and the BJP was mastermind behind the ruckus in Parliament. The BJP government should take up no-confidence motion if it has any guts and sincerity, he stated.

However, the police arrested the CPI activists and foiled their effort to lay siege to the office of BJP. On the occasion, the CPI activists raised slogans against the police and the state government. The police had to shift the CPI activists forcibly from the location. Meanwhile CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna condemned the arrest of their party activists and said the government was suppressing the agitation for SCS.

CPI city committee member D V Ramana Babu, T Paidayya, A Ramu, K V Bhaskar Rao, Mahila Samakhya leaders P Durgamba, O Bharathi and several leaders were also arrested and shifted to Pamidimukkala police station in Krishna district. Later the police released them.
