Tirupati: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has strongly protested the Clinical Establishments (Registrations and Regulation) Act deploring that it makes impossible to deliver the law’s requirements. They said that many states have not implemented it.

If this Act will come into force, the registrations of private nursing homes will become very difficult especially in the case of single doctor hospitals. Presently, the DM&HO has been inspecting the private nursing homes in all aspects and issuing registrations. Under the new Act the powers will go into the hands of Collectors which will make the process cumbersome. Also, under the new Act, the fees will be uniform in New Delhi or Tirupati or even a small place makes it unbearable for the common man.

They said that, IMA was opposing it for long. All of a sudden, when the Chief Minister was away in New Delhi on Wednesday, the bill was passed in State Assembly and will be sent to Legislative Council and their intention was to stop it going to the Council.

IMA Tirupati unit president Dr IV Ramachandra Rao, secretary Dr AR Reddy, APNA State President Dr Srihari Rao, senior doctors Dr P Vasudeva Naidu, Dr Sipai Subrahmanyam, Dr Koduru Balasubramanyam, Dr Yugandar and others participated in the protest held before the Municipal Corporation Office. As per the bandh call given by IMA State unit, private hospitals were shut down for OP barring emergency services on Thursday.
