Rain brings respite to denizens

Visakhapatnam: Giving a big relief to citizens from scorching heat, thunderstorms lashed several parts in the city on Saturday.

Influenced by the cumulonimbus clouds in the evening at several parts in the city, including Pendurty, Simhachalam, Gopalapatnam, Madhurawada, Hanumanthawaka, Arilova, Sitammahdara, Kapparada Colony and other areas, thunderstorms created a panic for about one-and-half-hours. Though the citizens enjoyed the cool climate, but suffered as the EPDCL put off the power as a part of precautionary measure.

According to the scientists of IMD, due to cumulonimbus clouds, usually formed by thunderstorms, sudden heavy rain and gusty winds happened in the city. However, the scientists said that the activity would be one and two hours only. Meanwhile, the unexpected sudden change in the climate, the mango and other horticulture crops in the vicinity of the city were damaged.

Meanwhle, the cricket lovers, who are eagerly waiting for the big fight- ‘IPL’ inaugural match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai-were disappointed as there is no power at majority of the areas in the city. The BCCI has made lavish arrangements for the inaugural match bringing several celebrities to the first match. The cricket lovers have made several arrangements to enjoy the IPL inaugural match and with a deep dissent rushed to various places where the small screens are on with generator facility.
