Guntur: The School Education department is likely to start English Medium (EM) in the Mandal Parishad primary schools and upper primary schools from the next academic year in the State to attract more students and to increase admissions.
Parents, even those coming from poorer sections, are opting for English Medium schools and admitting their children in the private convents and corporate schools.
The School Education Department is of the opinion that if they start English Medium schools, the students will join in the government schools and the poor families will be able to save their money.
Following demand from different districts, Commissioner of School Education K Sandhya Rani submitted the proposal to the government to secure nod to start English Medium in 9,186 MPP and MPP UP schools in the State from the next academic year.
As soon as government gives its nod, the School Education Department is planning to start English Medium schools to improve the strength of students in schools.
The government will start English Medium schools along with the Telugu Medium schools. The parents will have a choice and they can opt either Telugu medium or English medium school for their wards.
According to sources in the School Education Department, admissions are going down in the MPP schools. If they start English Medium schools, they are expecting that students’ strength will increase. Responding to the resolutions of the Grama Sabhas, the Headmasters of schools are sending proposals to the DEOs.
