Srinagar/ Srikakulam: An army jawan from Andhra Pradesh was killed in an encounter with terrorists that occurred at Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Four civilians were also killed and 20 injured as protesters clashed with security personnel in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir while an encounter was on with militants.

The soldier who was killed is identified as Sada Gunakara Rao, 25, of ASKaviti village in Pathapatnam mandal of Srikakulam district. His family members received communication from the army officials on Wednesday evening regarding the martyrdom.

Gunakara Rao joined the Army in 2012 to overcome his family financial crisis. He has three elder sisters who got married and his parents had planned to perform his marriage in coming six months.

After receiving message from the army officials pale of gloom descended at the house of Gunakara Rao. His father Malleswara Rao is an agriculture labour and worried about their future. His mortal remains would reach ASKaviti village by Thursday evening, according to relatives of the deceased.

Army paid befitting tributes to Sapper Sada Gunakara Rao who attained martyrdom during counter terrorist operations in Kulgam district.

He sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation at Khudwani early on Wednesday. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but he succumbed to injuries.

General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps, Lt Gen A K Bhatt, led all ranks in paying homage to the soldier on behalf of the nation. In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr.
