Vijayawada: The political situation has turned out to be a difficult task to YSR Congress Party to find a suitable candidate for Vijayawada parliamentary constituency. The YSR Congress gave the ticket to industrialist Koneru Rajendra Prasad in the last elections. After facing the defeat, he never attended any party programme since then.
Since his defeat, the YSR Congress leadership could not select a leader for parliamentary constituency to give party ticket for contesting from Vijayawada parliament constituency.Another industrialist Potluri Vara Prasad also known as PVP wanted to enter the politics as YSR Congress candidate in the past but now he is watching the prospects of the party.
Former home minister Vasanta Nageshwara Rao's son Krishna Prasad also expressed his interest to contest against Minister Devineni Uma from Mylavaram Assembly constituency. Recently, he met YS Jaganmohan Reddy and discussed about his political aspirations. According to sources, YS Jagan asked him to contest from Vijayawada parliamentary segment.
But surprisingly, Krishna Prasad met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday. So, the situation seemed that finding a suitable candidate for YSR Congress to contest from Vijayawada parliamentary segment has become a difficult task though YS Jagan's walkathon is all set to enter Vijayawada city in the next couple of days.
Actually, YSR Congress is unofficially announcing the candidates for parliamentary and assembly segments during the ongoing YS Jagan’s walkathon. The leaders of party constituency in-charge persons are bearing the expenditure of YS Jagan’s walkathon during their respective constituencies.
The YSR Congress leadership announced Sri Krishnadeva Rayalu, head of the noted educational institutions for Guntur parliamentary segment. Likewise, several candidates’ names are being selected and the YSRCP chief is reportedly handing over the responsibility of party affairs to them constituency-wise in the presence of important local leaders.
But no leader has come forward so far to take up the responsibility of Vijayawada parliamentary constituency on behalf of YSR Congress. It is interesting to note that more than two candidates are in the race for three Assembly segments in Vijayawada city contrary to parliamentary segment.
One senior leader of YSR Congress on condition of anonymity said that nearly Rs 100 crore is required for contesting for parliamentary constituency in the changing scenario. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that no one is ready to spend that amount of money for Vijayawada parliamentary constituency to contest on YSR Congress Party ticket.
