Institutions, social organisations and political parties joined in paying rich tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on the occasion of his 127th birth anniversary here on Saturday. Marking the occasion, Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) held a memorial lecture on ‘Ambedkar role in building modern India’ and also unveiled a portrait at Arts Block auditorium in the university. 

Tirupati: Institutions, social organisations and political parties joined in paying rich tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on the occasion of his 127th birth anniversary here on Saturday. Marking the occasion, Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) held a memorial lecture on ‘Ambedkar role in building modern India’ and also unveiled a portrait at Arts Block auditorium in the university.

In his address, AP and Telangana High Court judge Justice Suresh Kumar said that Ambedkar realising that education is the key for the development of oppressed and depressed brought changes in education sector so as to make it accessible to all and also provided education for girls also. SVU Vice-Chancellor A Damodaram said that the real tribute to Ambedkar is realising his dream of ensuring equality of all in the society.

He also explained the growth of the university made in the last two years and exuded confidence that the university improving its resources soon for reaching international-level. At a function held in TTD, Joint Executive Officer (JEO) P Bhaskar said Ambedkar was not only visionary but architect of social India. JEO said though Ambedkar faced severe social discrimination since he was born in an underprivileged class, it in no way deterred him to wage a relentless war for social justice, getting him a unique place in the world history.

Telugu Bashodyama Samithi president G Sridevi in her key note address said Ambedkar philosophy influenced even the world intellectuals. Syndicate Bank Regional Office celebrated Ambedkar Jayanthi. Marking the occasion, Regional Manager R Anuradha distributed blankets to the orphans, who are physically challenged in Abhaya Kshetra, here.

In SPDCL, DISCOM Director P Pulla Reddy along with officials garlanded the statue of Ambedkar in the corporate office here and called for renewed efforts to end inequality and discrimination of weaker sections still prevailing. Ambedkar birth anniversary was also celebrated in Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) and in Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetha (RSVP). Tirupati Brahman Samajam (TBS) joined in the celebration of Ambedkar Jayanthi.

In a function held in the TBS office premises here, TBS vice-president Prof Chakravarthy Rahavan said that Ambedkar never spoke or acted against any community and strived lifelong for the equality of all and to uphold the dignity and self-respect of the members of the downtrodden communities. He said though the Brahmins dominated ‘Constitution Draft Committee’ number wise with five against two including Ambedkar, who was the chairman, they all worked under him with respect and with no inhibition and reservation, Terming Ambedkar as ‘Constitutional God’ of all the Indians, he said Ambedkar’s preaching are more relevant now.

TBS general secretary K Ajay Kumar lamented that vote bank politics trying to confine a tall leader like Ambedkar to particular section. Lauding Ambedkar as a genius, he said he was the first Indian to get PhD abroad in Economics and was responsible for bringing labour laws limiting working time to 8 hours daily. BJP leader Muni Subramanayam, a Dalit, lauded TBS for celebrating Ambedkar Jayanthi and said that this would inspire Brahmin Associations in other places in the country follow suit, heralding a new era of amity. Congress senior leader K Pramilamma, Congress Seva Dal state convener P Prabhakar and others were present.
