Srikakulam: The TDP leaders, including Minister for Transport and BC Welfare K Atchannaidu and MP K Rammohan Naidu, faced the wrath of SC Unions’ leaders during the Ambedkar birth anniversary programme at the Zilla Parishad meeting hall here on Saturday.
While discussion was going on, the SC Unions’ leaders and members rushed into the meeting hall and staged a protest against the TDP government for its negligent attitude towards SCs welfare and poor implementation of SC, ST Atrocities Act. They raised Laxmipeta incident in which 12 Dalits were killed by BCs in 2012 in the district and a BC leader B Vasu Naidu whose role was key in the attack was still sailing with the TDP. They demanded his suspension from the party.
Representatives of the unions demanded action against SC, ST Cell DSP Ch Penta Rao for not dealing properly with cases relating to SC, ST Atrocities Act. In turn, the minister and MP assured to render justice to SCs who lost their kin in Laxmipeta incident. They also announced to construct a building in the name of Babu Jagajjivan Ram in Srikakulam city.
