Amaravati: A day will come when girls would demand dowry, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Wednesday hailing the progress made by women in different fields. The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the ‘Chandranna Pelli Kanuka’ website on Wednesday at his residence at Undavalli.

Speaking after launching the website, the Chief Minister said Chandranna Pelli Kanuka will be introduced in the State on April 20. In the first phase, the government will transfer benefits to the beneficiaries directly without any delay. But, from next month onwards, the intended beneficiaries should file their applications a couple of weeks in advance. The Kalyana Mitras will have responsibility to verify the beneficiaries and upload the same in the online portal, he explained.

All the certificates and documents will be verified online. The Kalyana Mitras will provide 20 per cent approved amount on the spot, The remaining amount will be cleared at the time of marriage.

Photos or finger prints of the bride and bridegroom will serve as authentication to transfer the money during the time of marriage. Within 48 hours after the marriage, the government will deliver the marriage certificate to the couple, at their home. Chandrababu Naidu stated that he would send the Kalyanamitras as his representatives to the marriages and they would be treated as State guests in the marriages.

The Chandranna Pelli Kanuka will become a historic scheme in the future, Naidu opined. The Chief Minister said that earlier there was discrimination against girl child. There were dowry issues and many other social evils. But the society had witnessed lot of changes gradually and the girls now are in a position to select persons whom they wish to marry, Naidu said.

He explained that marriage is a sacred event between a woman and a man. One lakh marriages would be organised through Kalyana Mitras in the State every year, informed Chandrababu Naidu. Some families in the society were facing severe financial problems to organise the marriages, the Chief Minister pointed out.

Stating that everybody has a right to choose their life partner, Naidu announced special incentives for inter-caste marriages. The government will provide financial assistance to STs, SCs, BCs, minorities and physically challenged persons. He said the government had taken the decision to see smiles on the faces of the poor. The Chief Minister said the government was ensuring proper implementation of social welfare schemes and that the benefits reach the targeted people.

The government achieved 97 per cent satisfaction of the beneficiaries, he pointed out. Naidu mentioned in detail various welfare schemes being implemented by the TDP government. Referring to the protests being staged by the Opposition parties, Naidu cautioned that they should be peaceful. The activists should not damage public properties, he said. The Chief Minister appealed to people to extend support to the one-day Deeksha of the TDP on April 20.
