Visakhapatnam: Governor ESL Narasimhan participated at the annual general body meeting of Indian Red Cross Society here on Saturday. As many as 100 Red Cross delegates from 13 districts were present.

Addressing the meeting, the Governor appreciated the various projects taken up by IRCS in the state for the poor and needy. Red Cross blood banks should provide quality and infection free pure blood to the needy, he suggested. The Governor wanted the NAT facilities for providing pure blood, which is available at Visakhapatnam Blood bank, has to be utilised for this purpose in other districts also.

He advised the district branches to start the family counselling and suggested to start the SERV (Social Emergency Voluntary) programme, which is being implemented in Srikakulam, to the other districts also. Every student of degree and junior colleges should be trained in first aid and disaster management activities, the Governor opined.

Narasimhan announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh to the AP state branch to spend for the benefit of needy and elderly people in appreciation of various activities conducted by the state branch. He advised district branches to collect clothes, books, and toys from the public, who are able to donate, and the same can be supplied to the poorer sections of society.
